While photographing polar bears I am always near, or in, a vehicle. This is partially due to the extreme cold. Also, polar bears are very curious and have no fear, and that makes them dangerous. Luckily, these bears aren't paying much attention to me, in fact, this mother would bring her cubs close to my vehicle anytime a male bear would wander too close..For the first two years cubs stay with their mom following close behind. Most behavior is learned and mom has to teach her cubs how to hunt, dig a den, and survive the Arctic environment. She must also protect her cubs from larger male Polar bears.
