058 Ted E. Bear.jpg

I used a long lens to get this incredible close-up of a grizzly along the road in Denali National Park. For many years I have photographed bears and feel somewhat comfortable, but cautious, around them. However, I have never lost my respect for their size and speed. Taking bears for granted could be a fatal mistake. As this bear approached I watched closely his body language. You can usually tell if a bear is being aggressive or just curious. This one was curious. I maintained a comfortable distance, although if the bear wanted to he could have been on me in seconds! In just a few moments the bear moved on to continue feeding.
