178 Calliope Hummingbird.jpg

We seldom see hummingbirds at rest but they often are. There are 320 species of hummingbirds and they are only found in North and South America. Of the 15 species found in North America the Calliope is the smallest. They range from southwestern British Colombia to Baja California and from Alberta to Wyoming in the Rocky Mountains. The sight of a hummingbird always elicits a response from the smallest child to the eldest viewer. Their ability to defy gravity and hover in one spot while feeding stirs our imagination and wonderment.
