There's nothing like watching wild mustangs roam free in the American west. This image was taken on the high plains near a lake. As I ventured toward the edge of the lake I found 65 wild horses with several young foal. The large group were made up of several smaller groups all sharing the same range for grazing. I spent a couple of hours carefully moving closer to the band as they moved about feeding. As I got closer a stallion moved toward me. He watched me as he protected his band. He wouldn't move and I thought I would never get closer before dark. Then I remembered an old technique, I took a deep breath, exhaled and relaxed, becoming very calm. Within moments the stallion moved off allowing me to move closer and continuing to photograph.
